Dalai Lama offers condolences to Cyclone Phailin victims

DHARAMSHALA, October 15: Tibetan spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama who is currently on a visit to the United States of America and Mexico, expressed his deep condolences to families affected by Cyclone Phailin in Orissa state on Saturday night.

In letters to the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Orissa Chief Minister Navneen Patnaik, the Dalai Lama “expressed his sadness at the loss of life and devastation of property as a result of Cyclone Phailin.”

He further expressed his happiness over the minimal loss of life due to the efforts of the concerned authorities and the precautions taken.

“As a token of sympathy, the Dalai Lama Trust is making contributions to the relief of both the state and central governments.”

The Tibetan settlement of Phuntsok Ling in Gajapati district, which is around 90km from Gopalpur and falls directly on the path of the Cyclone also suffered extensive damages to standing crops.
