Visits Dharamshala, the heart of Exile Tibet
Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh – June 22 , 2011 – Students for a Free Tibet-India kick-started the fourth annual Little Lhasa program with participants from across India, France and Bolivia from 21st June, 2011. Students, journalists, film-makers and people of various professions have come to Dharamsala for 5 days to experience Tibet and explore Tibet’s current political situation, its unique socio-cultural heritage and history.
“I got interested in the Tibetan cause after hearing a lecture by Lobsang Sangay at IIT. Sangay spoke eloquently and movingly about the plight of the Tibetans and the uphill task that independence was going to be” said Kurian, a 3rd year English major student of IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), Madras. “The Little Lhasa program is an opportunity to gain an inside look at the revolution; to observe first-hand the churning wheels and cogs of the small but fierce machine of Tibetan independence.”
In the course of a week, participants will engage with prominent Tibetan activists, leaders and former Tibetan political prisoners. The participants will also visit Tibetan political and cultural institutions, Tibetan Govt-in-Exile, Tibetan Library and Museum.
“I’ve known very little about the Tibetan struggle and when I came to know about the program I wanted to know through face-to-face interaction what the struggle is all about,” said Vaishalli, a journalist participant. “Here, I am getting the opportunity put faces to the Tibetan struggle.”
Little Lhasa is an annual summer programme organized by Students for a Free Tibet-India. The participants bear all their expenses to take part in this program.
