Dharamsala, November 10: Jigme Norbu, nephew of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and son of late Taktser Rinpoche finished his cross country ‘Walk for Tibet’ covering a distance of over 500 miles starting from Indianapolis, USA to Toronto Canada.

Norbu, who began his most recent walk for Tibet on October 10, covered 25 to 30 miles a day to conclude the marathon on “sharing message of world peace, human rights and the Tibetan struggle for independence” at the Chinese Consulate in Toronto, Canada on October 29th.

Norbu has compiled over 6500 miles of walks and bike rides spreading awareness about Tibet and its independence.

His most recent walks are the 600 miles of “walk for Tibet” in May this year followed by another walk from Philadelphia to Washington DC in July.

“I want to let China know that we (Tibetans) are not backing off and to make the world aware of the truth and what is happening in Tibet, especially the current Tibetan students’ language protests,” said Jigme before a gathering of Tibetans and supporters who welcomed and lauded him at concluding another milestone is his “Walk for Tibet” mission.

“We are their voice to the world media, to make sure that their rights and lives are protected” said Norbu.

In the 19 days of walking, Jigme was accompanied by his support driver and walker Tai Nguyen from Vietnam. Kunchok Gonpo of RTYC Madison, US joined the walkers from Windsor Canada on October 21.

The walkers at their various stops in Universities and institutions spoke about Tibet before reaching their destination, the Chinese Consulate in Toronto.
