Tibet and Peace event in Moscow

Moscow – On 26 November, Tibet Culture & Information Centre, Moscow, in cooperation with the Writers’ Association of Russia, organised an event called ‘Tibet and Peace’ in the House of Literature in central Moscow to honour the 70th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The event started with the lightening of a candle. Representative Tashi spoke at length about Tibet including its civilisation, the Chinese illegal occupation, His Holiness’ vision of future Tibet, the nature of Tibetan struggle for freedom based on the Middle Way Approach and stressed the importance of international community’s support for the cause of Tibet.

Venerable Choege Tsering Dhondup spoke on Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, Buddhist way of meditation and its benefits.

Venerable Tenzin Rabten, a Tibetan Bonpo doctor, spoke on Tibetan medicine, its history, methods of treating the patients and its benefits.

The Russian writer and poet Mr. Leonid Volodarskyi and another lady poet also spoke on Tibet and its civilization. Mr. Volodarskyi composed a special poem in praise of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

At the end of the event, a brief documentary film on the young Panchen Lama, Gendun Choekyi Nima, was screened.

A booklet on the brief history and biography of His Holiness and the latest Tibetan bulletin “Novasti Tibet” were freely distributed to the attendants.

The event was attended by about 150 people, mostly intellectuals, writers and poets who show keen interest in Tibetan culture, Buddhist philosophy and medicine.
