AUCKLAND – Chinese President Hu Jintao flew into Auckland for talks with New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark.

Earlier in the day he left Wellington where he arrived Saturday and flew to Hamilton for brief tours of agricultural research facilities.

He visited an automatic milking plant and a transgenic research facility.

While there he signed the first of a number of agreements that will be dealt with here.

Only a handful of protesters, advocating independence for Tibet, have been at the venues Hu visited.

Security at all venues appears low key and Hu moved across Auckland Sunday with barely any noticeable disruption to the city.

New Zealand officials say the talks Sunday afternoon between Clark and Hu will seek to expand trade and economic links.

At a dinner party Saturday night, Hu said his visit was aimed to “enhance friendship, expand common ground, further cooperation and facilitate common development.”
