Dharamsala, 15 April – In an effort to upgrade the teaching methods of teachers at Primary level in the Tibetan schools, the Education Department of the Central Tibetan Administration has organized a 6-day workshop at College of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sahara. The English Language Teaching (ELT) and Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATHS) workshop is attended by 30 primary school teachers from various Tibetan schools in India.
At the inaugural ceremony, the Health and Finance Kalon Lobsang Nyendak-la addressed the need of having more of such workshops in order to bring effective imparting of knowledge to the children. He also spoke about the education system currently followed by the Central Tibetan Administration and wondered if the system has succeeded in achieving its aspirations and goals in the past four decades. In view of that the Kalon reiterated the present Kashag’s plans and efforts to put up a new education system directed towards achieving that aspiration.
The workshop is divided into two categories. The first two days will be on the methods of Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies (PATHS). The experts speaking on that are Mr. Mark T Greenberg and Dr. Celene Domitrovich, both from Penn State University. The remaining four days will be on the techniques of English Language Teaching (ELT). For that the department has gained the assistance of three noted specialists, namely Mrs Shefali Ray of State Council of Educational Research and Training, New Delhi; Dr. Anju Gupta of Indira Gandhi Open University and Mrs. Gopa Biswas of the National Institute of Open Schooling, New Delhi.
The workshop will be completed on 20th April.
