Promoting a message of independence through non-violence, three Indiana based Tibet support groups are coordinating a “March for Tibet’s Independence” from Bloomington to Indianapolis. The International Tibet Independence Movement (ITIM) is walking for the sixth time. This year ITIM is joined by the members of the Tibetan Cultural Center (Bloomington), and the Indiana University Students for a Free Tibet. This walk was inspired by Taktser Truklu (Thubten Jigme Norbu) who is the oldest brother of His Holiness The Dalai Lama, Co-Founder of ITIM, and Founder of the TCC.

Beginning at 9am on March 6 from the TCC, a group of Tibetans and Tibet Supporters will walk up SR37 to downtown Indianapolis. This walk will end on March 10 with a major demonstration at 12pm at Monument Circle. March 10th is the 44th Anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising in Lhasa, Tibet. The walk will be led by Jigme Norbu and Dr. Larry Gerstein (President, ITIM; Professor, Ball State University). Mr. Norbu is the Director of the TCC, son of Taktser Truklu, and nephew of His Holiness The Dalai Lama.

“We leave our jobs and families to share the story of Tibet with the people on the street,” said Benjamin Cox, director of the International Tibet Independence Movement.
