PARIS, October 15 - Organisers of a Paris concert aimed at raising money for Tibetans exiled in India and Nepal cancelled the gig hours before it was to start Tuesday because not enough tickets had been sold.

``The 1,000 reservations was not enough to cover the producer's overheads,'' they said in a statement, adding they regretted the initiative did not generate greater interest.

To break even, 3,800 tickets would have had to be sold for the concert, which was to have been held in the 6,000-place Zenith hall in northeast Paris and feature singers including Nina Hagen and former tennis player Yannick Noah, they said.

The event had been organised by the association Solidarite Tibet to coincide with the visit to French capital by the Dalai Lama, the exiled spiritual leader of Tibet.
