DHARAMSHALA, April 12: The foundation chaired by the exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama has announced the 2018 edition of the ‘Graduate Scholarship Program’ for aspiring scholars in North America, Europe and Australia.
In its eighth round of annual scholarship grant, up to 10,000 USD will be awarded to around 18 exceptional candidates, as a supplementary bursary, the foundation based in the US announced on Wednesday.
The foundation said it aims to, “encourage Tibetans students in a graduate field of study relevant to the times, which has the potential to contribute to the welfare of humanity and the Tibetans.”
“The Dalai Lama Foundation was established to support the advancement and welfare of the Tibetan people, the culture and heritage of the ancient civilization of Tibet, and the promotion of the deep-rooted values associated with that culture and people,” the foundation said further.
Almost 100 Tibetan scholars, including 23 Ph.D. candidates have been beneficiaries of the foundation’s grants since 2011. Around 1.4 million USD has been offered for recipients that have since been enrolled in reputed universities around the world such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia, New York, McGill, Oxford, Cambridge, the London School of Economics, Sciences Po (the Paris Institute of Political Studies), among others.
The Dalai Lama Foundation offers grants to various educational, social and innovative scientific programs and initiatives around the world including Paul Ekman Group LLC, Tritiya Dharmachakra Foundation, Tibetan Community of New York and New Jersey, Emory University and many others.
