DHARAMSHALA, December 26: The President of Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) Dr. Lobsang Sangay congratulated Jai Ram Thakur, who has been chosen the new Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“As the host of both His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the CTA, Himachal Pradesh is extremely important for Tibetans across the world. The Tibetan people and the people of Himachal share a close bond of friendship based on love and harmony. I am hopeful that under your visionary leadership, this bond will be strengthened even further,” said the Tibetan President.

Sikyong Sangay also stated how he is inspired by Thakur’s humble background and how he has navigated through the twists and turns in life to achieve success and win the confidence of his voters.

“Moreover, as a politician with a clean image and strong grassroots connection, I am optimistic that you will exert extra effort to work for the people for an inclusive development of both the Tibetan and the Indian people in the state,” Sikyong said while wishing him all the success in his endeavors.

The 5-time Member of Legislative Assembly from Seraj, in Mandi district will be sworn in as the 14th CM of the state tomorrow in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, making him the first CM from the district.

The 52-year-old was selected as the new CM after BJP’s chief ministerial candidate and two-time CM of the state, Prem Kumar Dhumal lost in the polls. Thakur belonged to a poor family in Tandi village in Mandi and was fourth among five siblings —two sisters and three brothers.

BJP came back into power in the state after winning 44 seats out of 68 on December 18. Following BJP’s victory, the President had also congratulated the party.
