DHARAMSHALA June 2: Two Tibetans from Ngaba have been released from Chushul prison near the Tibetan capital Lhasa on May 29.

Phakma and her nephew Jigme arrived at Sichuan airport on May 31 and after medical checkup drove to Ngaba. Hundreds of Tibetans stood on two sides of the road to welcome them around midnight of June 1.

People shouted "Bhod gyalo, lha gyalo" (victory to Tibet, victory to gods) as Phakma and Jigme arrived.

Phakma and Jigme were arrested in the aftermath of self immolation protest by two Tibetans - Dorjee Tseten and Dhargay - in front of the historic Jokhang Temple in 2012.

Phakma's husband Karkho was also arrested along with them. Karkho was sentenced to life imprisonment while Phakma and Jigme were sentenced to 3 years in prison.

They are natives of Shoegu division, Lota village, Ngaba County.
