Finance Kalon attends Sankalp Unconvention Summit in Mumbai

DHARAMSHALA, April 24: Kalon Tsering Dhondup of the Department of Finance, Central Tibetan Administration along with Tibetan entrepreneurs attended the two-day Sankalp Unconvention summit in Mumbai last week.

The Summit this year was billed as the “largest social enterprise focused gathering in the world” and brought together more than 1,000 industry experts and policy makers from around the world to discuss trends and solutions that aid social enterprise development.

On the sidelines of attending the Summit, Kalon Dhondup met with impact investors Legatum Capital and Omidyar Network based in Dubai and USA respectively - the two investors which expressed keen interest in supporting the Tibetan Entrepreneurship Development.

“The Finance Department joined the Summit to gain knowledge and exposure on entrepreneurship development opportunities and build network with prospective investors for the TED project to make Tibetan businesses more competitive, sustainable and impact oriented,” said T Keyzom Ngodup, TED’s Senior Advisor.

The Empowering Tibetan Businesses initiative funded by USAID sent two budding Tibetan entrepreneurs, Kelsang Tsering from Kollegal and Tenzin Rabten from Bir settlements. Kalsang Phuntsok and Tenzin Wangyal from TechnoServe showcased Tibetan entrepreneurship at the summit

Key sessions at the Summit include plenary session seeking answers to role of social enterprise, their approaches to improving lives of people in the bottom of pyramid. Regional spotlights that include spotlights in Africa and South Asia and India in particular highlighting recent developments that are creating hub for entrepreneurship.

The Department of Finance was incepted in 1969 with the main objective to raise revenue for CTA to fulfill its mission and to prepare, execute, and control its annual budget
