BYLAKUPPE, India, 10 February — The two Losar Kyipo-tang concerts of 8 and 9 February, celebrated as "Tibetan Music Festival", organised by Gonpo Entertainment in Bylakuppe, ended with much jubilation and applause with the introduction of some new artistes.

Thousands gathered at the YMCA ground in Bylakuppe for musical and dance performances, fashion shows, firework displays, a guest appearance by Miss Tibet 2007 to celebrate the Losar, the Tibetan new year of Earth Mouse 2135. The concerts were co-sponsored by Kingfisher and TVS Motors.

The main feature of the concerts was competition of four rounds of musical and dance performances between Bangalore and Mysore college students. Bangalore took the award of fifty thousand rupees, which was presented by Hollywood star Steven Segal.

The competition included a group song, traditional folk dance, a talent show, and a Bollywood item.

Kelsang Dorjee Dongsar presenting the fashion brand "Kelsang Dongsar" stunned the audience with some women's and men's high fashion sequences, including one that could have been only a little below haute-couture. Dorjee has studied designing from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, which is India's number one design school and one of the most prestigious design schools in Asia. He is currently engaged in some small design projects, while waiting to do his masters in fashion designing. Dorjee is based in Bangalore, but constantly on the move. He is only 23!

"I am happy that I began my debut show in Bylakuppe. I am happy to reach out to the Tibetans in this settlement. My parents started their life from this very settlement, and now I started my show from here. I am very satisfied with how the show went," says Dorjee.

Designer Kelsang Tsomo with her brand "Lakar" had the theme: "A spirit to make a difference" for her show. She presented a range of women's and men's wear specialising in women's Chupa (dress) and Whonju (blouse) and men's Whonju (shirt), with embroidery in different Tibetan motifs. The whole range is graceful and regal.

Included in Tsomo's show was her upcoming summer special, a T-shirt with a theme revolving around love. Every shirt has a red heart in the front, and a universal message such as Compassion, Kindness, Equanimity, Wisdom, Freedom, Confidence, Nature, Tibet, etc. on the back.

Gonpo, the proprietor of Gonpo Entertainment, presented twenty-five thousand rupees to each of the designers.

Another highlight of the concerts was Phurbu T. Namgyal singing songs from his latest album "Jelyong".

Also, Miss Tibet 2007 Tenzin Dolma in a guest appearance spoke about her participation in the Miss Earth pageant in the Philippines. She said she felt very proud to represent Tibet among 80 countries in the pageant. She also encouraged Tibetan girls in Bylakuppe to come forward to participate in the Miss Tibet pageant, which will be held in October in Dharamshala.

Other artistes and groups performing in the concerts were Michael (Tenzin Gyalpo), the Bylakuppe Lhamo (opera) troupe, and Team 5678, a choreography troupe from Bangalore. A few local artistes also performed in the concerts.

Gonpo Entertainment was founded by Gonpo Gyaltsen in 2003. It has since been organising Losar shows in Bylakuppe annually. The company has organised shows in the US and Canada.
