TNFA and Bhutan XI in full action
Gangtok, October 31: The pre-quarter final of the 29th All India (Sikkim) Governor’s Gold Cup football tournament between the Tibetan National Football Association
(TNFA) team and Bhutan XI has been set for rematch after it ended in a 2-2 draw.
The evening match went to extra time, but had to be stopped after the first half of the extra play due to poor visibility at the Paljor Stadium, Gangtok.
After first half of the extra play, the match referee decided to abandon the game forcing the Organising committee to fix a rematch; the timing of which was to be decided later.
Tibetan team fans waving Tibetan National Flags and cheering for the team were seen in large number in the stadium.
The Tibetan team made a tremendous recovery in the second half of the game after Bhutan scored two goals in the first half.
Sonam Rinchen’s classic free kick from just outside the penalty area gave TNFA its first goal. Tibetan aggression was not yet over. Some 10 minutes later, Tsering Dhondup scored the match’s equalizing goal, giving him his second goal of the 2007 Gold Cup tournament.
Tsering Dhondup scored TNFA’s winning goal on Monday
against IWDFA of Manipur to push his team to the pre-quarter final with Bhutan XI.
“Since our players are very much exhausted after 2 matches, we have already appealed the organising committee to give one day rest before the rematch. We are hoping for a positive response after the committee’s meeting tonight,” Mr Kelsang Dhondup, the Tibetan team manager, told Phayul on phone.
