Canberra, August 8 - The Tibetan Community of Canberra gathered in front of the Chinese Embassy today, as a part of the global Tibetan mass movement to show solidarity with the 14 brave hunger strikers in New Delhi. Furthermore, the large ‘Genocide Games’ banner acted as a reminder to the international community about the ongoing gross human rights violation in Tibet, as China marks exactly 1 year until the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

In his speech, the former president of the Canberra Tibetan Community Mr. Samkar Mingyur-la expressed solidarity with the 14 hunger strikers and observed the restlessness of the younger generation of Tibetans and urged the Chinese government to be sincere in their dialogue with His Holiness the Dalia Lama.

The Words of Truth prayer and the Tibetan national anthem were sung followed by shouts of Bod Gyalo and Free Tibet by the gatherers.
