Conference on Thoughts of the Dalai Lama and Gandhi

Dharamshala November 3 - A two day national conference will be held in the Indian capital as a part of the official celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama's 70th birthday. The conference, which will take place at the Vishwa Yavak Kendra, will focus on the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. A series of discussions and lectures on issues concerning global peace and universal responsibility will be held during the two days.

Shri T. N. Chaturvedi, the governor of Karnataka, Shri Ravindra Verma of the Gandhi Peace Foundation, Dr. Radha Burnier, the president of the International Theosophical Society, and many other eminent scholars and personalities will address the conference which is expected to draw participants from all over India.

Prof Samdhong Rinpoche, the Kalon Tripa of the exile Tibetan government, will deliver the welcome address. Rinpoche expressed his pleasure over the holding of the conference. "I am glad that the conference is taking place," he said.

The speeches and the proceedings of the conference will be published in order to avail the thoughts of the scholars and supporters of peace to the public. Kalon Lobsang Nyima, the chairman of the 70th birthday celebrations' organizing committee said tat the conference is an important part of the series of events to express the Tibetan people's gratitude to His Holiness the Dalai Lama for his leadership and service he has rendered to the Tibetan people.

The conference will be held on 6 and 7 November 2005.
