Readers' Comments on "Back to the Future: Enduring Phobias and Superstitions in Tibetan Society (Part Two)"
With every passing year the official 10 th March statements gets progressively more disheartening and defeatist. In this year's Kashag statement, Samdhong Rimpoche calls on the public to participate in prayers and "merit-accumulating activities" to get the Chinese talk to us....

After reading all the comments,I felt proud of every one of you for your active involvement in the matter.
Opinions were very thoughts provokingly intellegent, whether or not one agrees with one, and disagrees with the other. For some can learn and others can contribute. My advise to all of us is:-NEVER STOOP DOWN TO CALLING NAMES TO OPONENTS.SAVE IT FOR GYA-RO!!!

Thanks again for enlightening the masses.
Samdhong Lama and the Tibetan govt and everybody should stop completely this mumbo jumbo business of telling Tibetans to pray for political dialogue. I cant believe this is happening in this day and age. This is despicable, anyone who propagates this kind of attitude should resign or be impeached. Lets be realistic.

I'd be very grateful if you'd take the time to read my version of this song. Originally, “Both Sides Now (2000, Orchestral Version)” by Joni Mitchell:

“Mean Gossip Clouds”

Rows and flows of angel hair,
And ice cream castles in the air,
And feather canyons everywhere,
I’ve looked at clouds that way.

Sometimes they just concealed the sun,
They rained and they snowed on everyone,
So many things I would have done,
But clouds concealed the way.

I’ve heard of clouds from two sides now,
Both Us & Them and still somehow,
It’s mean illusions I recall,
I really don’t know Clouds…at all.

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels,
The dizzy, dancing way that you feel,
As every fairy tale comes real,
I’ve looked at love that way.

Before it was another show,
And you left them laughing when you’d go,
And if you cared don’t let them know,
Conceal thyself away.

I’ve heard of you from two sides now,
Both Us & Them and still somehow,
It’s mean illusions that I recall,
I really don’t know you,
I really don’t know Love at all.

Tears and fears and feeling proud,
To say, “Know thyself!” right out loud,
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds,
I’ve looked at life that way.

Oh, but now old friends they’re acting strange,
And they shake their heads,
And they tell me that I’ve changed,
Well, something’s lost but something’s gained in living everyday.

Oh, I’ve heard of life from two sides now,
Both Us & Them and still somehow,
It’s mean illusions I recall,
I really don’t know Life at all…

It’s mean illusions that I recall,
I really don’t know us,
I really don’t know Them at all…

Thanks,
Allophilia

Definitions of mean:

1. average: approximating the statistical norm or average or expected value; "the average income in New England is below that of the nation"; "of average height for sus age"; "the mean annual rainfall"

2. hateful: characterized by malice; "a hateful thing to do"; "in a mean mood"

Definitions of illusion:

1. An illusion is a distortion of a sensory perception. Each of the human senses can be deceived by illusions.

2. an erroneous mental representation (abstraction); something many people believe to be true that is false; “Since I never met them before, the gossip gives them the illusion that I am very wealthy”

To Garuda:

Jian Norbu proved to be a skillful and a charismatic leader
when he started many projects including Tibetan performance Arts. He started from nothing and soon the project
became a very well-known spectacular show. By this project
he contributed a lot to the preserving of Tibetan culture promoting its dancing and music all over the world.
Look at the company now: after you, fanatics, demonstrated so much compassion by Beating up Jian Norbu, And taking the Tibetan performance Arts away, it became the worst show in the whole world and the dancers are the ugliest, the singers have the worst voices. The reason is that TGIE doesn’t care the performers’ talents, caring instead only about nepotism.
Moreover, 2 new much more talented dance groups started by new arrivals were shut down just because they had to be compassionate to the Tibetan performance Arts.

You are talking about compassion as the biggest hypocrites.
You don’t know what compassion is, you only know how to talk about it.
I don’t think Jian Norbu wants to lead you, hypocrites. If he is driven by compassion, he will be the best and brightest leader and we all will be lucky. But I don’t know if we deserve it.

and what about his personal life? i do know that he counts among his friends both men of great integrity and men of no integrity. so, does he have integrity or not? because you can't be a leader if you don't have personal integrity...and that requires more than abandoning your wealth. it requires treating people with respect and compassion. does jamyang norbu have compassion? does he know the meaning of deep respect for others, and for every living being? these points are far more important than an external display of renunciation (i.e. giving up a bunch of land and money in darjeeling).

garuda

Aku-la, you seem to know a lot about the man. Have you read any of his book? Please don't tell us from what you heard from other people.

It is wrong to personally attack Jayang Norbu-la, or anyone in this fashion. Jayang-la is a highly educated, informed and straight thinking intellectual in the Tibetan community. His stance and dedication toward Tibetan Rangzen is greatly admired by Tibetans and others all over the world. Rangzen is and will be the number one priority of the Tibetan Peoples demand period! By the way, speaking of his family,Jayang-la comes from a very well respected family, whose father owns the better half of Darjeeling town in North India, a wealth more than all of Mcleod Gunj put together. He commands even more admiration and respect for sacrificing his claims and living an ordinary life. So lets not rip on him about why he abandoned all the poor back in Dharamsala only to live an even more tougher life in Ahri.Jayang-la is a righteous and a caring man - one who is always for the cause of Tibet, writng articles and books, volunteering time out for lectures, seminars and rallies for the good cause of Tibet and Tibetans. He should be appluaded and recognised for his great efforts, and seriously hope that some day Tibetan Youth Congress will recognise him in an similar Rangzen award made out to Taktse Rinpoche this year in 2005. Jayang-la has good intentions, factual and accurate information about Tibet culture, history, government and politics.I wish him all the very best, and want him to know there are tens of thousands of Tibetan supporters behind him. A few naysayers....thats for the birds!

I miss to mention the very important personality called "Tri-darma Oudum Tsenpo" his name in our Buddhist History is called "Lang-darma" which related his story as Alexandra the great and Arabic story called "One thousand & one night" of having horns in his head and killed by a fanatic Buddhist monk who was the 8th Abbot of Samyé. When King Darma took the power against his younger brother by force whose name, I mention in my previous Buddha vs Nation by mistake. That I meant of King Darma himself. When he mobilize military power for the security of the Nation which he sees the danger of the campaign for Buddhist which increase of Buddhist communities owning 7 families for each monk offered by his Younger brother Tritsug-Detsen during his power in 9th century. The religion exists without country and country require the law.
