We were close to the sacred city of Lhasa when finally I saw it: the legendary Potala with its golden domes and white and deep-red palaces. Here, at last, was the holy of holies; the fabled Shangri-la that was for so long off-limits to travellers from the West....

Thank you Brian, the author, for continuing to call here Tibet, and only a quick reference in parenthesis to TAR. Quick witted, Brian is able to see past the Communist fascad and show how Tibet is becoming over run by Chinese. The contrast is remarkable, well documented and well written. The very fact that talking to locals results in more danger to them than to the visitor only enhances the fact of China's strict rule. The outrage of all of this is that the Chinese are UNINVITED in Tibet, yet continually espouse their "achievements" in Tibet.

It is well for foreign journalists to spend time in Tibet, and come back with the truth of the situation in Tibet. Right now Tibet is a compromised country, because of the infiltration of China into Tibet, and disruption of the Tibetan culture and self determination.

On a last note, I would have loved to hear Brian sing When I'm 64, and Black Magic Woman, just not in Tibet with Chinese propaganda in the background.
