Subject: China & the Dalai Lama

Although many people would like His Holiness to visit China & eventually return Tibet, the Chinese Communist Party would never allow it nor do they have any interest in so doing.

The CCP views the Dalai Lama as a threat to their control over Tibet. They know, as we do, that Tibetans are overwhelmingly loyal to His Holiness & retain a strong sense of national/cultural identity which is separate & distinct from China. To the CCP and to Tibetans, the Dalai Lama is a symbol of Tibetan nationalism.

The CCP does not believe in genuine autonomy for Tibet. They want assimilation & subjugation. The CCP doesn't want Tibetans having a distinct identity except to wear colorful costumes & dance for the tourists. The CCP wants Tibetans to be like children, quiet & obedient.

His Holiness' presence in Tibet or China would upset the CCP's policy of assimilation & subjugation. It would galvanize & increase support for the Dalai Lama not only in Tibet but also in China.

The Dalai Lama should be allowed to return home & to visit China. But we shouldn't delude ourselves into thinking that will happen as long as the CCP rules China & Tibet.

If the information that Mr. Kranti provides here is true, then it is a clear indication that China wants to complete the strategy to capture your Holiness as they had in Lhasa 1959. Therefore as a common Tibetan I humbly plead not to visit China till such as a time when they can prove, sincerely and honestly that they are keen to resolve the Tibet issue according to universal norms. I understand your Holiness, as a Buddhist monk you would be keen to visit Wutai Shan for pilgrimage but as our leader, you would be placing your trust not with Tibetans but with the Chinese. All this many years, you have listened to your wise advisors and political leaders and international friends and they have helped formulate your decisions but just this time, like in March 1959 please hear the pleas of an ordinary Tibetans.
