statue

In other cultures where erecting a statue is customary, this is not usually done until what ever it is put to commemorate, is finished. ie the monument to the unknown soldier was built after the war was over. The Tibetan situation is not over, yet. Having a statue of a person that self immolated does not seem to be a traditionally Tibetan thing to do. I could be wrong.

I strongly appeal to TYC to consider all actions carefully to withstant time and history. Do not surrender to emotions but be practical. Actions of TYC will bear heavy consequenses on its reputation. There are many young educated and dedicated leaders in TYC. Be wise.

My salutations to all the matyres

I salute all the selfelss heroes of fatherland Tibet. Their names will be encarved in golden letters inn the history to Tibet.
It bodes well that TYC or TGIE builds a respectable ( not like the funny one near Tshuglag Khang)- taking a clue from India Gate, to honour all the matyres who fought and died for Tibet. Selective memorials are in very poor taste and could be misconstrued.
The Chorten infront of Chithue Lhankang at Gangkyi is the right place to build the memorial. The Chorten could ne modified - a proper one with provisions to add names of matyres.

Is it really necessary?

I don't mean to under-estimate the ultimate sacrifice Pawo Jamphel Yeshi made for Tibet nor do I in anyway have doubts about the noble intention TYC has in erecting a statue in his honor. As I think about it,two questions pop in my ignorant mind...first...why is the TYC singling him out? Or second...Is it that the others who made the same level of sacrifice deemed less important because they did not happen during many of the TYC's organized demonstration and hunger strikes? Whatever the case, I feel it does not do justice to all the Pawos and Pamos who offered their body as choe-mey for Tibet so that the future generation of Tibetans may walk on the illuminated path leading to an Independent Tibet. Their sacrifice should not be glamorized but kept in our hearts and passed onto genenrations to come in forms of history, literature and folklore. But if a monument has to be erected then I would suggest one in the lines we have in Raj Ghat(New Delhi) of the unknown soldier with all the names of the Pawos and Pamos enscribed in golden color. But I am aware that something like this is already exists, so do we need more? This is just my view and and a personal thought that may not be taken into account, should it project any other meaning other than the ones that I have mentioned above. Om Mani Padme Hum. Independent Tibet!!
