I feel so embarassed that you use the title of a monk. I am from Sikkim and even I know that Rumtek Monastery is hundred percent for HH Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje. In fact, other than one or two monasteries that are Shamar Rinpoche and Beyul Khyentse Rinpoche's, none of the Kagyu monasteries follow Shamar Rinpoche's boy puppet. Maybe if you told the truth, the world would actually pay attention to you. But sadly, you have to hire and pay for people to pay attention...

Subject: Shamarpa in Dharamsala
Aug 12 2010 07:43 PM

Shamar Rinpoce is travelling to Dharamsala at the invitation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on August 12,2010 with 20 monks from Rumtek gompa. His Holiness and Shamar Rinpoche will try to find a resolution for the Karmapa debacle. Karmapa Urgyen Thinlay Dorje has been denied visas to travel to Europe and the USA recently and his movements within India also remain restricted. The administration of HH Dalai Lama hopes that Shamar Rinpoche will be able to provide some assistance in removing these restrictions on Karmapa Urgyen Thinlay. With Shamarpa’s Karmapa Thaye Dorje travelling the world freely it remains to be seen if Shamarpa will comply. The Tibetan government in exile looks deeply shaken by Scott Miller’s movie based on the Karmapa papers. Once again the Dharamsala administration has pressed for a meeting with Shamar Rinpoche. Shamar Rinpoche’s unrelenting pursuit for the preservation of Kagyu lineage has Dharamsal worried and frustrated. The Karmapa controversy at this point in history finds itself within the domain if internationl politics. It will be interesting to see what awaits Shamarpa at Dharamsala. Not so long ago, Foreign Secretary of India, Nirupama Rao had candidly relayed India’s position on the Tibet issue vis a vis China to His Holines the Dalai Lama. Within that policy, she also expressed the urgency of a peaceful co-existence with her neighbour. The government of India would not encourage any acivity that would anger China. Karmapa Urgyen Thinlay’s populrity and the succession question has China livid and India concerned about refugees poltiking on her soil. India is pushing hard to find an approximation of basic human rights and what constitutes interference with another country’s politics. The restictions on Karmapa Urgyen Thinlay are a part of this policy. I, personally, see no way either His Holiness the Dalai Lama or Shamar Rinpoche capable of changing that position.

Karma Dadul brings about some insight into the circumstance of His Holiness Karmapa.

The politics of re-incarnation is way over played today. Lamas and Rinpoches dont receive as much and even the same quality of respect that they once received not so long ago.His Holiness the Dalai Lama is as much a politician as he is a spiritual leader and although he has done a funtastic job of balancing the two in the eyes of the devout and prejudiced, his politics cannot be ignored. HH Situ Rinpoche and HH Shamar Rinpoche have both failed their sacred duty to the lineage. They miserably let down the Kagyu Lineage with their controversy. Whether you like it or not the Karmapa name is wrapped in controversy today. Perhaps it would have been easier to shut up the masses when they were illeterate and ignorant. Nevertheless, in all this confusion I struggle to see where the essence of Buddhism finds expression. We have all strayed far away from what we hoped to accomplish with our buddhist practice of tolerence, compassion, patience and commiting all our services for the benefit of all. Buddhism is a science. It is only when it gets steeped in culture and tradition that it becomes a religion. And all religions require blind faith in varying degrees. Re-incarnation falls in the realm of meta-physics and its recognition in tradition.Therfore it is not possible to relate to it with absolute scientific certainty. The issue of genuine Karmapa should be left to the concerned individual to decide with whatever method they wish to adopt. They can follow Situ Rinpoche and believe in Ogyen Thinlay or they can follow Thaye Dorje and believe in Shamar Rinpoche or they can decide on their own. However, the issue takes an interesting departure from tradition when the follower arrives at a decision only after a powerful figure like the Dalai Lama gets involved. If you really care read some history. Not books published in recent years after the controversy but books that lie collecting dust in the libraries. The brilliance of Karmapa, Situpa and Shamarpa have been well preseved in hundreds of texts. And once you can truly relate with the history and the lineage you will realise the futility of what is spiritul materialism. Let the Karmapas, Situpas and Shamarpas all thrive. They all mean well. They are all trying to to help someone, at least thats their common message to humanity. Let goodness thrive and peace endure. India has a great history. We had Islam arrive from Arabia and Indialised it. Christianity came from the west and that too was absorbed by India. We have many religions and hundres of beliefs in India. I am a proud Indian because our nation is tolerant to every individual’s belief a fact borne by the number of religions in India not to mention the numerous sub-sects. As much as we have a right to believe in the Karmapa of our choosing that much of a duty we have, to remove every speck of politics and prejudice that comes wih our belief. Every individual should conduct their own experiment. Unity in diversity. Diversity is emblemetic of freedom. The biggest challenge for us is finding some organic unity within the Kagyu school while still allowing for basic freedom of speech and belief granted in a democratic society. A balance between unity and diversity. A middle ground between spiritualism and scholasticism. And a respect for tradition running through 17 lives and yet welcoming the changes that are relevent to the current day. The middle way is the way.

Subject: Ignorant care-taker
Jul 20 2010 08:36 AM

It is little sad but true. These three controversy surrounding of incarnations of Thaye Dorjee, Trijang Rinpoche and Chinese pointed Panchen Lama are exactly similar. These problems are created by their care-takers, and I feel sorry for these young individuals who have to go through such a deceiving path of ignorant ones. These ignorant ones put them away from Buddhist practitioners to some where in Western countries or less Buddhist believers. But you know what- because the power of truth, ignorance will be done with sins.

Otherwise, the principle of Buddhism should always be in action on day to day life. Buddhist should never be self-center, arrogant, ignorant, jealousy and anger toward even enemy at all. It should rather uses its wisdom, well being, hard work and etc to serve every living beings. It says you must know that circle of existence is not permanent, and it is emptiness. If you sacrifice your body, mind and energy in this life for well being of other living beings, it is the principle of Buddha.

So, hopefully Shamar has nothing to do with the stoppage of Gyalwa Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorjee's planned visit to US. If he does, I consider Shamar to be worse than cruel communist Chinese regime that never respected human rights, freedom, mainly religious rights.

No one has right to violate individual rights or harm any body's will. Particularly, this Gyalwa Karmapa, who made supreme sacrifices and struggled against Chinese intentions to escape into India

If Gyalwa Karmapa Rinpoche is power seeking and self-fulfilling, he would h, himself, is power seeking, he wold have have remained as puppet of Chinese Regime in Tibet.

So I have no doubt that Gyalwa Karmapa will enlighten a lot of ignorant ones to have more peace, tolerance and compassion.
