Subject: British in Tibet knew it was independent
Nov 08 2008 02:59 AM

In the 1940s, British diplomats & the Foreign Office knew that Tibet was de facto independent. They said so in their own memos, which are now publicly available. The British officials remarked that Chinese suzerainty over Tibet was a fiction & Tibet had enjoyed all the aspects of independence since the fall of the Qing Dynasty (1911).

There is absolutely no credible evidence that Tibet was part of China prior to 1951.

Britain back to their old tricks again. We the Tibetans are fully aware that Britain knew full well that Tibet was an independent, sovereign nation and yet they fed us to the Chinese as animal bate. Why? It was easy sell. Tibet had no diplomatic or military clout and most important of all did not offer any immediate economic value to its depleted treasury. On the other hand, China was a treasure chest, waiting to be skillfully looted. This may have been easy for them then, but we no longer the illiterate “serfs” and “beggars”, they helped China liberate. We may be an invisible minority, but our eyes are now wide open! You can take your, “suzerainty” shove it back where it came from.
