Sarah, Dharamsala August 13 - The sister concern of the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics set up in 1996 at Sarah village today celebrated its seventh birthday. Presiding over as the chief guest at a modest function held in the institute’s temple was Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, the Kalon Tripa of the Central Tibetan Administration. Also present on the occasion were Mr. Pema Jungney, Chairman of the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies, Mr. Thupten Lungrik, Kalon for Education, Culture and Religion, Kalon Trisur (former Kalon Tripa) Kalsang Yeshi, Kasur Rinchen Khando, officials of the Central Tibetan Administration and representatives of the various non-governmental organisations.
At the convocation function, monks of the institute’s main centre and students of Sarah branch were honoured with prizes and certificates. Mr. Pema Jungney, Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, Mr. Thupten Lungrik, Kasur Kalsang Yeshi, Kasur Rinchen Khando took turn to honour the students.

Addressing the gathering, Prof Samdhong Rinpoche congratulated the jubilant students and said that their achievement in the field of Tibetan traditional fields of studies is worth appreciation.

Rinpoche said that he had the opportunity of association with the late Geshe Lobsang Gyatso, the founder of the institute, and that he is overwhelmed by the fact that the late master’s dream had realised.

The Institute of Buddhist Dialectics has greatly contributed to the Tibetan society for which the Central Tibetan Administration and the Tibetan people are grateful, Rinpoche said.

Ven. Karma Gelek Yuthok, Secretary of the Education Department of the Central Tibetan Administration, said that though the outgoing students have finished the academic courses but they should continue studying as there is no end to knowledge.

The late Geshe Lobsang Gyatso, the director of the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics started the institute on the advice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama who inaugurated the branch institute on this day in 1998.

The former director of the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics had a vision to start such a learning centre where people from all races, castes and creed could learn Tibetan language and Buddhism, said Passang Tsering, Secretary of the institute.

A luncheon reception was hosted by the institute in honour of the guests after the convocation ceremony.
