Italian Parliament Resolves to Stop Tulku's Execution
TibetNet[Saturday, April 03, 2004 04:26]
Dharamsala, April 2 - The Italian parliament recently passed a resolution on Tibet calling for the rescinding of Tenzin Delek Rimpoche's execution and starting a new fair trial. The resolution 8-00073 was passed unanimously by the Foreign Affairs Commission of the Italian parliament.

Following the Resolution on Tibet voted unanimously on the 9th October 2002 that committed the “Government to the adoption of all the possible initiatives regarding the People’s Republic of China, so that, by way of dialogue, conditions be created for the realization of a new statute for Tibet…… and to call upon the Chinese government to acknowledge and fully respect the fundamental political, social and cultural rights of religious, ethnic and other minorities, and also their cultural specificity including religious freedom”, the resolution, together with the European Union’s partners, called to invite the People’s Republic of China to stop the execution of Tenzin Delek Rimpoche and to call for a new fair trial. Gianni Vernetti, the President of the Italian Parliamentary Group for Tibet, with the support of his colleague in the group, has proposed the resolution.

Following is the text of the resolution

Italian Parliament

Chamber of Deputies
Resolution 8-00073 in the Foreign Affairs Commission passed unanimously on the 11th march 2004

The Foreign Affairs Commission,
following the Resolution on Tibet voted unanimously on the 9th October 2002 that committed the “Government to the adoption of all the possible initiatives regarding the People’s Republic of China, so that, by way of dialogue, conditions be created for the realization of a new statute for Tibet…… and to call upon the Chinese government to acknowledge and fully respect the fundamental political, social and cultural rights of religious, ethnic and other minorities, and also their cultural specificity including religious freedom”,

Keeping in mind
  1. that on the 26th January 2003 the Sichuan Provincial Court confirmed the death penalty for two tibetan monks, Tenzin Delek Rimpoche and Lobsang Dondhup, both accused to be involved in bombing and explosions activities and to promote “splittist”propaganda for the separation of Tibet from China,
  2. the fact that Lobsang Dhondup was immediately executed after the death sentence without any regards towards the international community remarks,
  3. the fact that the same Provincial Court suspended for 2 years the death sentence for Tenzin Delek Rimpoche,
Keeping in Mind
  1. that the European Union made several official statements criticizing the People Republic of China for the Lobsang Dondhup’s execution and for the way the trial was conducted, without credible evidence and without access to independent lawyers,
  2. that the US Government expressed similar protests against the People Republic of China, it commits the Italian Government
  3. together with the European Union’s partners, to invite the People’s Republic of China to stop the execution of Tenzin Delek Rimpoche and to call for a new fair trial.
Proposed by: Vernetti, Folena, Cima, Calzolaio, Landi di Chiavenna, Michelini, Naro
