DHARAMSHALA, NOV 22: Two more Tibetans were arrested by the Chinese authorities in Zachukha for demanding Tibet’s independence on Thursday afternoon following a protest in front of a Chinese police station in Dza Wonpo village in the region.

Choegyal and Yonten were arrested after the duo scattered leaflets calling for Tibet’s independence. These arrests are followed by the recent imprisonment of four Tibetan monks from Dza Wonpo Ganden Shedrub Monastery in Sershul County earlier this month.

Sources have notified Tibet Express that the duo shot a video clip prior to the protest showing the Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and leaflets that had ‘Bhod Rangzen’ (‘Independence for Tibet’ in Tibetan script) written with red and black ink. They shared the same video on the Chinese messaging app WeChat.

The duo also expressed their solidarity with the arrested monks in their WeChat posts. These arrests came after heightened security and surveillance following the arrests of the four Tibetan monks for carrying out similar protests at government offices. There is no further information about the detainees on their whereabouts following their arrests by the Chinese police.
