DHARAMSHALA, Oct. 8: The arrest of Tibetan refugees in the run-up to the high profile Modi-Xi Summit this Friday continues as 25 Tibetan students in Chennai were arrested and taken to Selaiyur police station in East Tambaram in Tamil Nadu.

The arrest happened Monday morning when the Selaiyur police officers thronged the rooms of these students in Tambaram and took away 25 students to the police station. The students were made to sign a promissory letter pledging not to engage in any illegal activity that will breach peace and public tranquility, indirectly referring to any pro-Tibet protest.

Thirteen of these students were taken to the same police station yesterday where they signed the promissory letter and had their photos taken.

Among the arrested were vice president of Tibetan Students’ Association of Madras (TSAM) who spoke to phayul yesterday about the arrest of TSAM President in the group of eight arrested on Sunday and shifted to the Puzhal Central Prison in Chennai.

The notable Tibetan writer and activist Tenzin Tsundue was first arrested last Saturday by Tamil Nadu police in Viluppuram district, claiming tip off from the central intelligence report that the activist might protest during that visit of the Chinese president.

This is the third day in a row that Tibetan activists and students were arrested by the police force of Tamil Nadu state that is hosting the summit at its coastal town to Mamallappuram.
