CTA assures continued support to FTCI for the sustainability of settlements

DHARAMSHALA, August 23: The Central Tibetan Administration’s (CTA) President Dr. Lobsang Sangay assured continued support to achieve the common goal of viable settlements at the inauguration of 19th Federation of Tibetan Co-operatives in India (FTCI) conference at Gangchen Kyishong.

Sangay said it is in accordance with His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s direction to Kashag to extend support necessary for the co-operatives and CTA’s goal of ensuring optimum utilization of community resources and self-reliance of Tibetan communities in the long run.

He said the CTA, through its Integrity Settlement Development Plan (ISDP) currently has 3 Crore (30000000) rupees’ worth of investment in private-public undertakings like tea factory in Miao, Arunachal Pradesh, apron factory in Dekyiling Tibetan settlement, and noodle factory in Mainpat, Chattisgarh.

The 15 Co-operatives across India runs workshops, guest houses, handicraft centres, flour mills, and dairy farms, among others.

Sangay, in his keynote remarks, guided the federation to be adaptive to the need of the time and changes in technology and human resources in order to survive crisis.

The inaugural function, attended by heads of the three pillars of Tibetan exile democracy saw the transition of FTCI presidency from Lobsang Choejor to Namgyal Tsering.

The federation distributed annual budget funding to its 15 Co-operatives and declared the winners of Nyamdel scholarship through a lucky draw at the event.

The three-day conference will begin its discussion sessions from tomorrow at Hotel Tibet in Mcleodganj, one of its business units.
