DHARAMSHALA, July 12: Meeting a group of Tibetan youth here at his residence earlier today, the exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama told Tibetan youngsters that they must not lose hope for their people, culture and tradition despite China’s repressive policies to eradicate the same in their native land.

The Dalai Lama, during a brief meeting with the volunteers of the Tibet Corps under the exile Tibetan government on Friday, said, “The spirit and faith of the Tibetan people has not diminished despite China’s repression. We Tibetans have persevered for all these years. The youth must hold the Tibetan religion, culture and identity at the fore and continue to persevere.

“Now things are gradually changing in China. There have been views within the Chinese leadership that say that their policies in Tibet have not brought the desired results and that there should be new polices that are based on the realities on the ground. Such developments are because of the unwavering spirit of the Tibetans,” he further said.

The octogenarian Tibetan leader also called on the youth to do their part in preserving their culture and religion that, he said, has the potential to contribute to the well being of the entire world.

The Dalai Lama turned 84 last week. In a statement of gratitude for all the wishes he received on his birthday, the leader loved world over wrote, “I would like to thank you deeply for the warm greetings that many of you have sent me on my birthday, 6 July 2019. I am now 84 years old, but I hope to be able to celebrate the occasion with all of you for many more years to come.”
