DHARAMSHALA, Nov. 24: The much anticipated meeting of various leaders from different sects of the Tibetan Buddhism and Bon tradition has been “indefinitely postponed”, the organizers of the conference, Central Tibetan Administration’s religion and culture department today announced.
The ‘13th Religious Conference of the Schools of Tibetan Buddhism and Bon Tradition’ was to be held from 29 November to 1 December 2018 at the new T-building, in Gangchen Kyishong, Dharamshala where religious leaders including His Holiness the Dalai Lama was due to attend.
The religion and culture wing of the exile Tibetan government in a notice dated November 24, cited the passing away of Kathok Getse Rinpoche, the 7th head of Nyingmapa tradition as the main reason for the postponement of the conference.
The notice also mentioned that other Nyingma lamas and lamas from other sects of the Tibetan Buddhism could not attend the meet at the proposed date due to the passing away of Kathok Getse Rinpoche.
The head of the Nyingmapa tradition passed away untimely on 19 November 2018 in Pharping, Nepal at the age of 64.
