DHARAMSHALA, Oct. 8: A newly formed Tibet Support Group in the French Assemblée Nationale (National Assembly), the lower house of the bicameral Parliament of France, was unveiled on Monday.

The group constituting 17 French legislators across party lines is led by MP Élisabeth Toutut-Picard who met the Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the Netherlands in September. She is from the ruling La République En Marche party, a centrist, liberal and social-liberal political party.

The group also has 6 legislators from the en Marche Les Républicains party, 7 MPs from the La République party, 2 MPs from the Indépendants party and 1 MP from Mouvement Démocrate et apparentés party.

A similar Tibet support group already exists in the upper house of the French Parliament, also known as the Senate.
