DHARAMSHALA, Aug. 16: China has installed high tech barracks and oxygen stations for its troops on the Tibetan plateau in a bid to highlight its combat readiness, according to Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) mouthpiece. China’s show of troop deployment and stationing of battle-ready equipments in Tibet have been going on for the past few months with India following suit.

PLA website 81.cn, has said that all frontline training troops and border outposts have been equipped with oxygen generators and oxygen cylinders. Moisture-proof and cold-resistant barracks have also been installed to keep the room temperature at 15 degrees Celsius even in the worst of snow storms.

In June, Chinese military units in occupied Tibet carried out a drill to test their logistics and armament support capabilities in the event of a war. China also built a unmanned automatic weather observation station recently at the border near Arunachal Pradesh that provides support to its military installations.

Similarly, in August 2017, the Lhasa-Gonkar base on the Tibetan plateau alone rose to a 25 fighter fleet adding to the total number of fighter planes in Tibet to 48, many of which are the Shenyang J-11 fourth generation fighter jets known also as the “super weapon” and are the equivalent of American and European made Super Hornet, Euro-fighter Typhoon and Dassault Rafale.

Chinese incursions in the 4,057-km Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, or occupied Tibet is a regular occurrence. On Monday, Indian media reported that Indian troops confronted PLA troops who had pitched five tents 300-400 metres inside the Demchok sector of eastern Ladakh which has seen repeated confrontations over the last few years. The two sides have held brigadier-level talks after the incident, sources said.

In 2016, there were 273 recorded instances of Chinese military incursions along the LAC. In 2017, the number jumped to 426 and 170 instances have been recorded till date in 2018.
