DHARAMSHALA, MAY 17: The Tibetan Women’s Association concluded its 12th General Body Meeting on Wednesday, retaining Dolma Yangchen as the president of the association with 137 votes in an election of new executive members.

“I am honored to be elected the president again, and I am thankful to you for the trust you have shown. I assure you that I will do my best to fulfill the aspirations of our association,” Dolma said.

192 Tibetan women from 37 different chapters of the TWA gathered here in the exile Tibetan headquarters for the meeting during which discussions on future works of the organization were discussed.

Kalsang Youdon, Public relations officer in the previous executive, was elected the vice president with 132 votes while Tsering Choezom was retained as the secretary of the association that was revived in exile in 1984.

The participants fielded 57 nominees in the preliminary round from which 20 women were listed as the final nominees for the new executive members.

The association unanimously decided to continue observing March 12 as the Tibetan women’s uprising day against the Tibetan cabinet’s decision to celebrate the day as the Tibetan Women’s Day. TWA said March 12 Tibetan Women’s Uprising Day represents an important day in the Tibet’s political history and the Tibetan struggle.
