DHARAMSHALA, MAY 3: In what could be termed as one of the biggest achievements for a professional in film and TV industry, a Tibetan youth based in New Delhi and a former student of the Tibetan Children’s Village here, has won the 2017-2018 National Award for editing. He will be receiving the honors from the President of India this afternoon at Vigyan Bhawan.

Tenzin Kunchok, who earlier worked for BBC and NDTV as an editor, has also edited the Tibetan film “Girl from China” directed by Sonam Tseten.

Tenzin Kunchok studied at the Tibetan Children’s Village as a dayscholar since his parents had settled in Dharamshala in the early years. Kunchok did his bachelors in the Indian capital.

Soon after quitting his job, he founded his production company called Mogstar. Kunchok has edited the film, “Mrityubhoj, the Death Feast”, which takes a fly on the wall approach, following a family in the Chambal district in India, as they get ready to organize a death feast following the demise of their father. Caught between tradition, societal pressure, and prestige on the one hand and on the other hand, activists trying to put a lid on the pernicious practice of Mrityubhoj, especially for the poor, it tries to capture their predicament of being caught between a rock and a hard place.

The film has been directed by Akansha Sood.

Greetings start to pour in on social media with his alma mater TCV congratulating Kunchok on this great accomplishment.
