HP Chief Minister Thakur calls on the Dalai Lama

DHARAMSHALA, Feb. 1: The new Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh state, Jai Ram Thakur, called on the exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Thursday at the latter’s residence here in McLeod Ganj.

The HP Chief Minister from the ruling BJP politician in the state said that his meeting with the Tibetan leader went favorably and that the Dalai Lama passed on messages on wide array of issues. “We had a very nice meeting. I am happy that I received the blessings of the Dalai Lama,” Thakur said while adding that they had discussions on ancient Indian traditions as well as issues that concern the welfare of Dharamshala.

In a video of the meeting shared by the Dalai Lama’s private office, the Tibetan leader was seen advising the contingent of Indian politicians to be objective while carrying out their duties. “Politician also need to study the ancient Indian knowledge in order to have a calm mind,” the Tibetan leader said.

The 82- year old who has been residing on the hillock in McLoed Ganj referred to Jai Ram Thakur as “my Chief Minister” and called Dharamshala to his second home.

The contingent of over 40 people accompanying the Chief Minister included State Irrigation, Horticulture and Public Health Minister Mahinder Singh, Industries Ministers Bikram Singh Thakur, among others.

The Tibetan Parliament in Exile Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel also made a courtesy visit to the Circuit House in Dharamshala to meet the new HP CM Jai Ram Thakur and presented him a traditional Tibetan painting.

Jai Ram Thakur is the 13th Chief Minister of the Himachal Pradesh State representing the Bharitiya Janata Party. Thakur who was appointed CM in December holds the Finance, General Administrations, Home, Planning, Personnel portfolios under his administration.
