DHARAMSHALA, Jan. 19: The exile Tibetan government known officially as the Central Tibetan Administration on Thursday launched the year-long “Thank you India” campaign in New Delhi, kick starting what the authorities said will see “a series of events to mark 2018 as the thank-you year.”

Tibetan President Dr. Lobsang Sangay said, “The success of the Tibetan people, also referred to as the most successful refugee community in the world, is due to the support of the international community particularly India and its people.” Citing support of the Indian government through out the decades, Sangay likened the Tibetan movement being the first and original product of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, a popular agenda of the current Modi led ruling BJP.

The Tibetan President also said that exiled Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama who has resided in India for the over five decades is a huge proponent of the revival of Buddhism that can be seen in the Himalayan region, with designs to push that influence further in the country.

CTA authorities said that a Pan-India campaign such as ‘Pray for India’, an interfaith prayer meeting, an initiative to feed the hungry, cover the cold, mass tree plantation drive, mass participation on Yoga day, cleanliness drives, among others will be put into practice, in line with the campaign.

However, some have questioned the actual translation of the broad thematic proclamation of the Dr. Sangay led administration into ground work. The Kashag (cabinet) last year dedicated 2017 as “the year of campaign” for Tibet. Activist group Students for a Free Tibet, India’s Campaigns Director Lobsang Tsetan earlier wrote on Facebook, “A Sunny day in Dharamsala monsoon is pretty much like CTA's Year of Campaign...You don't see them happening.”
