DHARAMSHALA, January 3: The 2018 edition of the coveted and often controversial beauty pageant of the exile Tibetan diaspora will take place in New York from 8 June to 10 June this year, announced Lobsang Wangyal, the man behind the pageant.
“I am happy to announce that Miss Tibet Pageant 2018 will be held in New York. We have partnered with Engage Entertainment, who will be producing and directing the Pageant,” said Lobsang Wangyal in the announcement.
For the first time in its history the pageant will be taking place outside Dharamshala, which has hosted all the previous 15 editions since 2002. Lobsang hopes for a ‘spectacular show’ as the organizer shift its venue from McLeod Ganj to ‘one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities’.
Engage Entertainment, entertainment and media company based in Mumbai and New York, in partnership with Sonam Wangdue and Lalit Bhatnagar will be taking the charges of 16th edition of the pageant which will accept entries till March 31, 2018.
Lobsang Wangyal at the Miss Tibet 2017 Pageant at Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) in Mcleod Ganj had announced his intention of selling the pageant. He had said, “The show will go on but under a different production house. I have been doing this for 15 years. With such huge gathering and nine beautiful contestants, I think it the best way to leave at a high.”
A record nine Tibetan women from India, US and Europe participated in the last edition of Miss Tibet making it the biggest since its beginning. Tenzin Paldon, a cabin crew at Spice Jet Airlines and part time model, was crowned the winner on June 5, 2017.
