DHARAMSHALA, October 27: The first ever manhunt contest, ‘Mr. Tibet 2017,’ kicked off on Thursday with the ‘swim trunk round’ at Highland Village Resort at Norbulingka in the morning, followed by ‘fashion and glamour round’ in the evening at Tibetan institute of Performing Art (TIPA).

The contestants in trunks walked along the pool to loud cheers and showed their physique on the platform arranged besides the pool. The costume turned into traditional and western wear during the evening proceedings.

The contestants walked the ramp first in traditional costumes and later in western dress such as suits and casual wears.

Despite a low turnout, the evening saw some great performances from various Tibetan artistes and performers with the organizers promising more in the next two days of the competition. Today is the talent round; multimedia round; and the Q&A round at the same venue.

Aimed at developing awareness of physical health amongst Tibetan youths, the five contestants on October 25 had their ‘sports and fitness round’ at the Mcllo Studio Gym. They were put through various strength and cardio exercises to test their limit.

The five contestants are Nyima from Bengaluru, Karma Thutop from Bir, Tenzin Londen from Hunsur Rabgyaling Tibetan settlement, Tsering Choephel from Bengaluru and Lobsang Choephel from Dharamshala competing for a grand prize of ₹1,10,000. The grand finale will take place at TIPA on Saturday. The first runner-up would receive ₹70,000 and the second runner-up ₹40,000.

Tenzin Tashi, CEO of Yak Event which is organizing the event has invited Pavan Shetty, Mr. World 2015 and Tenzin Zamyang, Mr. East India, as jury. In his welcome speech, he thanked the public, Tibetan NGOs and associations for all the assistance and support throughout the event.
