DHARAMSHALA, MAR. 16: The Tibetan legislators today during the ongoing session of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile (TPiE) called for the need to boost the liaison initiatives and official reach, particularly through Chinese language in order to reach out and cater to the Chinese public through avenues including digital and online platforms.

The parliamentarians questioned the exile government’s Department of Information and International Relations on the front and called for bolstered inventiveness on the issue in the future.

On the third day of the 17th TPiE, the Tibetan lawmakers urged the administration to review and strengthen liaison initiatives as well as improving human resources, particularly Chinese liaison officers with regards to improving links with the Chinese intellectuals and masses in the mainland as well as around the globe in creating awareness on the exile government’s political stand of ‘Middle Way’ and the Tibetan issue in general.

MP’s called for improvement of Chinese liaison officers currently in service by providing workshops and human resource development initiatives by the exile government. Chinese liaison officers are stationed in various ‘Office of Tibet’ branches around the globe serving as affiliates of the Central Tibetan Administration.

The Tibetan Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay, also serving as the Minister for Information and International Relations, said that his administration will be hosting a meeting followed by workshop for Tibetans with Chinese language proficiency from North America, Europe and India in the coming months.

Legislators while lauding the recent multi- lingual news broadcasting initiative by the exile government, called for further effort on digital and social media platforms to reach the Chinese people and Chinese speaking masses on the Tibetan exile government’s stand and the Tibetan issue to rid vacuum created by Chinese government propaganda as well as existing information void.

The legislative body of the Tibetan exile government (officially known as the Central Tibetan Administration) is currently meeting for its third session (budgetary session) to draft a financial plan for the new fiscal year due to begin next month.
