DHARAMSHALA, FEB. 9: The Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama, a staunch advocate for equality of human beings, has donated to an American initiatives that helps the homeless and the needy.

The 1989 Nobel peace prize recipient is reported to have donated almost 17 lakh (25,000 USD) to Utah Gov. Gary Herbert to help homeless in the state as well as to Primary Children's Hospital and the remainder to the Utah Tibet Foundation, according to US daily The Salt Lake Tribune.

The amount donated comes from the proceeds of last year’s visit by the Tibetan spiritual leader to the University of Utah's Huntsman Center. Homeless advocate Pamela Atkinson, who had previously worked with organizers of Dalai Lama events in US was quoted as saying, "He's very strict that nobody should profit from his visits. He always asks for very strict financial accounting."

Currently, the 81 year old wrapped up his New Delhi trip and headed to Vijayawada where he will participate in the first-ever three-day National Women’s Parliament event and then visit Hyderabad city to lay foundation stone for the new South Asia hub of Dalai Lama Centre For Ethics and Transformative Values. Telangana State CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao will also be present at the function.
