DHARAMSHALA, October 24: His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived in Dharamshala today after completing a two-week tour of European countries including Italy and Czech Republic.

Tibetan Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay, Speaker Khenpo Lobsang Tenphel along with representatives of various NGOs and associations received the Tibetan spiritual leader at the Gaggal Airport.

The 81-year old arrived from Milan where he bestowed the Avalokiteshvara empowerment and gave a public talk at Rho Fiera Milano hall where Mayor of Rho Pietro Romano presented the Nobel Peace Laureate with honorary citizenship.

While thanking the City of Rho for the honor the Tibetan leader said that change in the world doesn’t take place because of government directives, but because of the actions individuals adopt.

“We are all equally human beings. We have to promote a greater sense of the oneness. On that basis we can solve whatever problems we face. We can enter into meaningful dialogue and resolve conflict in a human way,” the Dalai Lama said, adding that most of the violence arises because of the focus on secondary difference of ‘us’ and ‘them’.

His Holiness also said that all religion share a common message of love and compassion and that branding a terrorist act as an act of Muslim terrorist or Buddhist terrorist (Burma) is wrong. “This is a mistake because a terrorist is just a terrorist. By committing bloodshed these people cease to follow the appropriate Muslim or Buddhist conduct that would qualify them as proper Buddhists of Muslims,” he said.

The Dalai Lama visited Latvia, Switzerland, Slovakia and Czech Republic before ending the two-week European tour in Italy.
