DHARAMSHALA, Oct. 4: Following the setback in the Tibetan parliament to his nomination of former MP Sharling Tenzin Dhardon as a cabinet minister the Tibetan prime minister has appointed the 35 year old as a Secretary in the Department of Information and International Relations as a consultant secretary for Information.
On Sept. 24 last month, Sharling who secured the highest number of votes in the parliamentary elections earlier this year failed to secure a majority that would guarantee her a minister's post for the Department of Information and International relations. Out of the 43 MPs present in the house, a majority of 27 votes went against her induction into cabinet while 14 votes favored it and 2 votes nullified.
Earlier in June, the Kalon candidate was withdrawn from the cabinet for not fulfilling the age requirement under the Article 21 (3) The exile government charter’s Qualification of a Kalon mandates “At least 35 years of age;” among nine other qualifications for any candidate.
The Tibetan PM came under attack from members of the Tibetan parliament with some even accusing the Harvard graduate of lying to the house and thereby breaching the Charter.
