DHARAMSHALA, April 29: The Prime Minister (Sikyong) Dr. Lobsang Sangay today launched a two-volume book in Tibetan, The Old and New Century of Tibet
, published by the Library of Tibetan Works & Archives (LTWA) in Gangchen Kyishong.
The book’s author Gonpo Dorjee, a former Member of the Tibetan Parliament, passed away, just three days ago on April 26 and reportedly stayed in a meditative state (thukdam) for the past two days until noon today.
“I would like to applause his work and also urge the Tibetan youth to read the book, which chronicles how the actual Tibet was before the invasion and how older generation worked hard after coming into exile,” the Tibetan PM said while lauding those who worked hard to get the book published.
The Tibetan PM also prayed that the author be reborn as a Tibetan and continue his work for the Tibetan cause.
The two-volume book covers Tibetan history since Nyatri Tsenpo, the first king of Tibet, to the events of 1986.
According to the press release of the LTWA, the late author wrote this book keeping in mind the advice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who constantly asked elderly Tibetan population to write about their personal experiences of Tibet for future references.
He had served as Chithue from U-Tsang province in 1972. However, he resigned and returned to his home in Darjeeling two years later due to health issues. In Darjeeling, he continued working for Tibetan Freedom (Bhodmei Rawang) newspaper till 1992.
