DHARAMSHALA, March 14: The Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived in Dharamshala on Sunday after spending over a month in the US for a prostate treatment.

CTA dignitaries, local Indian officials and representatives of various NGOs received the Tibetan spiritual leader at the Gaggal Airport.

“Thorough check and some medication, this time I found the best period of rest. So I am very happy and physically very fit,” the Dalai Lama told reporters outside the airport.

He also thanked all the Tibetans inside Tibet and those in exile, his friends and followers for the well wishes and prayers. He said that he was very much touched by all the love shown during his time at the hospital.

Thousands of people including Tibetans, foreign tourists and local Indian public lined up along the Potala road to welcome the 80-year old leader.

Before his arrival in India, His Holiness on Friday attended an event of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva despite the attempts by China to apprehend diplomats from various countries and the United Nation into boycotting the event.

A letter dated March 8, sent by the Chinese Diplomatic mission in Geneva said that the Dalai Lama attending any event under any capacity in the world ‘violates the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China.’

Despite the letter, the Dalai Lama spoke at the event titled, ‘Nobel Laureates on Human Rights - A view from civil society’.
