TNSA to livestream GCM football tournament 2016
[Wednesday, November 11, 2015 20:05]
DHARAMSHALA, November 11: The Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA) plans to usher Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup (GCMGC) tournament into digital era by streaming the tournament ‘Live’ for the first time to the Tibetan football fans allover the world.

The organizers last month announced that the 22nd edition of the biggest sporting event of the Tibetan diaspora would begin from the first week of April 2016 at the Doeguling Tibetan Settlement Mundgod, home of the champions, Doeguling Mundgod FC.

Kalsang Dhondup, Executive Secretary of TNSA, said, “We tried this year with help from Department of Information and International Relations and Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama but circumstances and limited resources did not allow us to carry on with our plan to stream it.”

Kalsang added that the TNSA gets many request for live stream. "With a limited fund and resources, we are doing our best for the viewers’ pleasure. Till now we have only post photos and regular score updates,” Kalsang said.

The organizers said they will look for skilled volunteers to carry out the operation, which will be done for the first time. The TNSA said it will provide travel allowance and daily allowance to the volunteers.

“Since we have to do it in shoestring budget, we are not in a position to buy cameras. So we will be buying cables and streaming equipment only. We will be asking the volunteers to help us by using their personal cameras,” said Phunstok Dorjee, Head of the AV team of TNSA.

Feeling upbeat about the new venture, he said, “Technically its doable. We will have few test runs here at the upper TCV ground to get the hang of it. Moreover, an expert on such operation will be here in January next year to guide and teach us how it is done.”

Doeguling Mundgod FC won the 21st edition of the tournament by beating the defending champion, Potala FC Pokhara, with 2-1 scoreline in Dharamshala on June 10.

Doeguling Youth Sports Association, a group to promote sports among youth in Mundgod, vowed to assist the organizers in preparation of the tournament in memory of the late mother of the Tibetan leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
