DHARAMSHALA, Oct. 23: The Tibetan Children's Village School here today celebrated its 55th year of establishment with students and staffs engaged in festive processions watched with great enthusiasm by the local Tibetan public.

The Chief Guest for the day, 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile Penpa Tsering, and Kalon for religion and culture Pema Chinjor overlooking the proceedings. Other guests include TCV 20 Years Service Award Recipients, Sponsors and TCV Alumni class of 1990 Batch.

TCV Director Tsewang Yeshi said that TCV has dedicated the year 2015 as the year to express gratitude towards His Holiness the Dalai Lama and have incorporated various initiatives in the curriculum to recognize that.

Addressing the gathering of few thousand people, TPiE Speaker Penpa Tsering reminded the staff as well as the students to have a sense of responsibility and duty towards contributing to a larger cause of Tibet. He said, “ Each one of you, whether students or staffs in this establishment which had a very humble beginning must not forget your duties and carry forth with a sense of responsibility in what ever you may be involved in”.

“If a TCV alumnus financially supports the cost of educating a few students which is very much doable, the whole of TCV will become a sustainable and a self reliant organization”, he added.

The anniversary celebrations will extend till Oct. 25 with the school’s sports meet on Saturday, a luncheon organized for the TCV Alumni (1990 Batch) and a TCV Alumni Association Dharamshala (TCVAA Dhasa) Autumn Fete on Sunday at McLeod TCV Dayschool.

TCV is one of the oldest and largest Tibetan schools built to rehabilitate and educate many destitute children as well as the children of earliest Tibetan refugees in India who were assigned to work as labors that constructed the high altitude and strategic highways extending from Shimla up to the Tibetan borders in Ladakh.

The Upper TCV School alone takes care of around 1700 students today and has a total of seven other branches in and around India.
