DHARAMSHALA, August 26: At least ten Tibetans have been arrested Wednesday following an agitation by around hundred Tibetans outside a Chinese government office in Nangchen County (incorporated into Qinghai province) in Kham, according to the Website of the Central Tibetan Administration.

The Tibetans were demanding government allowances for their family members who have not been listed among recipients of the allowance from the local economic development office. “The Tibetans were demanding equality in the payment of financial aids provided to the Tibetan people by the Chinese government,” the Website of the Central Tibetan Administration.

The Tibetans belonged to Chumey village, Nyakla township in Nangchen County.
The economic development office of the local administration has recently introduced a program to develop the economic condition of the Tibetan people through financial aids to rebuild their houses, scholarships, etc.

However, the office has refused to release grant money for those Tibetans who do not currently reside with their families and have moved out for education, job or other reasons.

The Tibetans held a protest demanding that the authorities reconsider their decision and allow equal treatment of all irrespective of their current location.

At least ten Tibetans, accused of leading the agitation, were arrested. Their current conditions and whereabouts remain unknown.
