DHARAMSHALA, August 26: In yet another incident of solo protests in Ngaba, a Tibetan woman has been arrested on August 20, the RFA reported.
Dorjee Dolma from Division 2 of Meruma Township took to the main street of the Ngaba town 8:30 AM shouting slogans as she walked. Sources said that witnesses were few as it was too early in the day. There is no information currently as to what slogans were raised by her during the protest.
She was arrested shortly after she commenced the lone protest and taken away. A source was quoted as saying, “She shouted in protest for some time before a group of police arrived at the scene and took her away”.
Dorjee Dolma is daughter of Dorab and Tamding Tso from Division 2 of Meruma Township which has been in the news lately for several solo protesters and self immolations. Dolma’s condition and whereabouts remain unknown at the moment.
Meanwhile, the identity of the lone male protester arrested last week in Lithang has now been confirmed by Tibetan Centre for Human Rights Democracy to be Lobsang Thubten or Thubpe, a 17-year-old Tibetan nomad youth.
He was arrested on August 18 from Lithang in Kardze prefecture, Sichuan province after a solo protest at Trungtrung Karmo square, carrying a large portrait of the Dalai Lama and shouting out repeated slogans of ‘free Tibet’ and ‘welcome Dalai Lama to Tibet’.
TCHRD revealed that Lobsang Thubten, son of Jephak Meme and Tenlo, belongs to Thurruk Nomadic Camp no. 1 of Ponkor in Yonru Township. One of nine siblings, Thubpe studied Tibetan Buddhism at Lithang Monastery. He is currently held at the Lithang County detention centre, TCHRD said.
Woekar Kyi, Lobsang Thupten and Dorjee Dolma are three Tibetans who carried out solitary protests and got arrested in the month of August alone
Lithang is now firmly considered a source of dissent by the Chinese government with overwhelming series of incidences that has the authorities rack up on personnel as well as resources geared to mow down any peaceful actions by the Tibetans in the area, according to sources. Additional combat vehicles and trucks carrying armed police were seen stationed in the area.
