NEW DELHI, Sept. 22: His Holiness the Dalai Lama has reiterated his call for genuine autonomy within the People's Republic of China and expressed his happiness over the results of the referendum in Scotland.

The Tibetan leader said that Tibet, which is backward materially, will benefit economically by remaining within China. "We remain within People's Republic of China, if we seek material help to build Tibetan economy provided they must give genuine freedom regarding preservation of our culture, our language and religion which in the long run will of immense help to Chinese people," the Nobel Laureate told a select audience including Indian parliamentarians on “One World, One Vision, One Future” at the India Habitat Centre.

His Holiness also appreciated Chinese president Xi Jinping's remarks in Paris earlier this year about Buddhism being the key to preservation of Chinese culture.

The Tibetan leader was speaking at a gathering on the invitation of Rajeev Chandrashekar, MP (Rajya Sabha) who had met the Tibetan leader in Bangalore.

"We are all very fortunate to be gathered here today, to hear without doubt one of the giants of our times - not just spiritual leader for the 800 million Buddhist world wide but also to rest of the world as well. A leader who espouses peace and co existence when most world leaders talk a contrarian language," said Chandrashekhar in his welcome address.

His Holiness returned to Theckchen Choeling in McLeod Ganj later today. He will resume his teachings on Shantideva's A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life (chodjug) at the request of a group of Southeast Asians at the Main Tibetan Temple.
