DHARAMSHALA, MAY 28: 21 Tibetan football teams from various regions of India and Nepal will participate in the 20th Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup football tournament from June 4 to June 15 in Dhondupling Tibetan Settlement Clement Town, Dehradun, the Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA) announced.

The tournament will be played off on league cum knockout system. The teams will be divided into seven pools. The top teams of each pool and second best amongst the pools will qualify for quarter finals. Each team will have minimum of two games to play.

Dedicated to the late Diki Tsering, the great mother of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the tournament was initially organised in 1981 as a club level tournament.

TSA took over the responsibility of organising the GCMGC in 2003 and has since used the tournament to hone fresh talents and select Tibetan football players for the Tibetan national football team. The team has represented Tibet in various tournaments within India and abroad.

The last edition of GCMGC was played Rabgyal Ling settlement, Hunsur, with Dhondup Ling FC lifting the trophy.
