TPPRC workshop for youth begins
Phayul[Wednesday, May 21, 2014 11:56]
DHARAMSHALA, May 20: Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Deputy Speaker of Tibetan Parliament in exile today inaugurated a ten-day workshop titled “Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leader” at Club House, Mcleod Ganj.

Addressing at the ceremony, Khenpo Sonam Tenphel said, “Since 2009, 130 Tibetans have set themselves on fire, out of which many have died. These Tibetan self immolators could have used some other means and harmed hundreds of people but they had no intention of hurting others and instead they bear all the pain.”

He further added that most of the Tibetans inside Tibet have more concern for Tibet cause than their livelihood. “In exile, it is important for an individual to spend more time for Tibet’s cause than one’s own livelihood. If we continue to do so, it is like collecting a drop of water to make an ocean. And a day will come when the issue of Tibet will be solved."

The workshop was organized by New Delhi based Tibetan Parliamentary and Policy Research Centre.

“As a member of board for TPPRC, we consider this workshop very important. Such workshop should produce leaders, who take can responsibilities for Tibet and Tibetans; win many Nobel Peace prize and at least do something for the six million Tibetans.”

Fifty three students from ten different regions are attending the workshop scheduled from May 20 to May 29, 2014.

Choekyong Wangchuk, Executive Director of the Tibetan Parliamentary and Policy Research Centre said that this workshop will give an opportunity for the students to explore the work of Tibetan government in exile and various Non-governmental organizations; it will also give a platform to exchange ideas and opinions.

Tibetan Prime Minister Dr Lobsang Sangay is also scheduled to meet the students on May 27, 2014.

Other speakers at the workshop include Penpa Tsering, Speaker of Tibetan Parliament; Jamphel Chosang, Chief Election Commissioner; Rigzin Choephel, Additional Secretary of Audit; Dawa Tsering, Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy; Bawa Kelsang Gyaltsen, member of Tibetan Parliament; and other officials from the CTA, Men-tsee Khang and Library of Tibetan Works and Archives.
